Director's Note

Dear Parents:

Welcome to Camp Wright! It is an honor to be the Executive Director of this 80 year old institution that has meant so much to me. I am a third generation Camp Wrighter, and remember my time here in the 70's and 80's with great fondness. I am delighted to have to opportunity to spend the summer with your children at a place that has meant so much to me. Since I was 7 years old, it has been my dream to be the Director of Camp Wright. In 2008, that dream came alive when I moved my family here from North Carolina for my first summer as the Executive Director. My family has embraced the experience along with me. Both of my daughters, Lucy and Lyndee, have been faithful campers over the years, and my husband, Buck, has served as the Maintenance Director for the last two summers.

As a native of the Eastern Shore, I am delighted to now call Camp Wright my home. I attended East Carolina University and earned my Master's Degree in Social Work. I spent 10 years in parishes and Dioceses as a Youth Minister in North Carolina, owing much of my love of children and youth  to my time as a counselor here at camp. Throughout my life, as a camper, counselor, and now director, Camp Wright has instilled in me a sense of direction and peace. I hope to offer as great an experience to each of our campers year to year.

I look forward to each summer with the anticipation of learning new names and recalling those that have been here for many years. Camp Wright gives me the opportunity to not only enjoy the beauty of the Chesapeake Bay and reconnect with my roots on the Eastern Shore, but also the pleasure of meeting all of you and playing a part in your children's lives. I am truly grateful for the privilege of serving your families in this capacity.

In this year-round position I am given the opportunity to work with the Diocese of Easton, organizations throughout the community, and of course, you, our camp families. Please let me know what you love about Camp Wright, and what you see as a continued vision for us. With your help, we will have many more wonderful years to share together with our children and families. I invite you to be a part of it all!

In Peace,

Associate Director's Note

Dear Camp Families,

I can clearly remember coming to Camp Wright in 1988 with my parents to pick up my older brothers.  That summer, I had insisted that did not want to come to overnight camp.  When we came to get the boys, I spent time exploring the shoreline with my father, peeking in the cabins by the bay and meeting counselors who had worked with my brothers that week.  I immediately knew I wanted Camp Wright to be a part of my life, too.  The next summer, I spent my first session in Coudon cabin and I’ve never looked back.

Each summer, I am in awe of the work our staff does, the time they spend with each child and the differences they make in the lives of young people.   I continue to be astounded by the beauty of the sun setting on the Chesapeake and the joy that comes from new relationships.  My work at Camp Wright has allowed me to grow in my faith and my belief in the camp experience for all children.  While Camp Wright does not offer some of the amenities that other camps do, we rise above others in our ability to connect young people - to each other, to positive adult role models, to God, and to the beautiful, natural world around them.

My most special moments at Camp Wright come from sending campers home affirmed in who they are and the important role they play in today’s world - only to see them back again and again, as campers, as counselors in training, as counselors and as alumni.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you or your family as you decide where your child will spend his or her summer.

Peace,
